Custom Web Application for Imagery Metadata Retrieval

The Challenge

A federal geospatial agency provided Digital Globe Daily Take imagery service as a basemap option. However, when the Digital Globe Daily Take imagery is presented as a basemap, it limits the user’s ability to access metadata by only displaying the satellite image. Metadata is often useful because it provides important information such as the acquisition date, imagery age, source, product type and accuracy details. Without the metadata, remote sensing analysts could not effectively leverage all the imagery data available.

The Solution

Ardent’s geospatial team created a custom geospatial application using JavaScript to display numerous metadata elements for the Digital Globe Daily Take imagery service. This application was then embedded in the federal geospatial agency’s portal and made available to all the users.

The Outcome

Remote sensing analysts could now access critical metadata including the acquisition date, imagery age, source, product type and accuracy details to enhance map products, gain a better understanding of the Digital Globe service, and improve situational awareness.

Tools used to achieve these outcomes:

  • ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise
